Supportive Family Services
Bergen County Family Shelter
GBCA Operates the Bergen County Family Shelter Program for homeless families receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families). Families residing at the family shelter, receive case management from GBCA in accordance with the guidelines established for this County-owned transitional housing facility. The overarching goal of the program is to assist families in achieving self-sufficiency. This project is administered through a partnership that includes the Bergen County Department of Human Services, the Bergen County Board of Social Services, the Hackensack Housing Authority and GBCA.
Program staff include licensed and credentialed professionals who all possess an in-depth understanding of the root causes of homelessness and steps that may be taken to help prevent recidivism. Comprehensive services and activities include:
Development of individual social service care plans.
Relationship and daily living skills counseling.
Employment readiness counseling.
Financial literacy counseling.
