OVERVIEW

Greater Bergen Community Action's  Emergency Housing Rehabilitation Assistance Program will aid Bergen County residents adversely affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic by making critical home repairs that affect the health and safety of the residents of qualifying households.

 

SERVICES

This program will offer financial assistance to make home improvements to compromised, inefficient, or broken down :

  • Roofing systems, leaders and gutters

  • Driveways, steps and sidewalks

  • Electrical systems

  • Plumbing systems

  • Heating and Air Conditioning Systems

  • Windows and Doors

  • Exterior Siding

  • Decking

  • Water damaged interior

WHO WE SERVE
  • Income eligible Bergen County homeowners who have experienced a financial burden due to the Covid 19 Pandemic such as loss of employment or loss of income through employment, medical expenses, or care for a family member.  CLICK HERE TO VIEW INCOME ELIGIBILITY CHART

  • Applicants must own and occupy the property as their principal residence. Housing types include 1-2 family homes, townhomes, condominiums, or mobile homes.

  • The home must be in reasonable condition so that repairs allow the home to continue to be occupied in a manner that is safe and in compliance with local occupancy codes.

WHAT TO EXPECT

If you are eligible for the program, a qualified contractor selected by Greater Bergen, will schedule an on-site assessment of the project to develop project specifications and a price quote for you to review. Once project scope and quote are approved the contractor will work with you to schedule the rehabilitation project. Before the work begins, you will be responsible for securing alll applicable building and construction permits. Once the project is completed and approved by the inspector and homeowner, a check will be made directly to the contractor performing the work, for costs approved up to $10,000.

DOCUMENT CHECKLIST

The following documents will be required to apply to the program 

  • Proof of residential ownership (copy of mortgage statements; municipal tax bills, or deed).

  • Proof of household income (tax return, pay stubs, or other forms of income eligibility determined by GBCA).

  • Detailed description of the emergency home repair project the applicant is applying for.
