Make A Resolution To Lower Your Home Energy Costs

One of the most common financial resolutions is to save more and spend less. Now that the holiday season is over, you might be looking for new ways to save money--especially if holiday shopping has left your bank account with less money. One way to save money is to cut down on your home energy usage. Here are some recommendations from GBCA’s Weatherization team to reduce your home energy costs and save more money this year:

1. Clear Your Air Vents- The air that comes into your home comes through your air vents. If the vents are clogged, your heater has to work harder, which will spike your energy usage and costs.

2. Open Your Curtains- When you aren’t in your home during the day, leave your curtains open, allowing the sunshine to naturally heat your home. At night, close them to trap the heat in for as long as possible.

3. Switch Lightbulbs- By simply changing your normal light bulbs to LED light bulbs, you can save up to $1,000 a year on your energy bill. LED bulbs might cost a little more up front, but they last longer and are more energy efficient. This provides a bigger payoff over time.
