Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) was formed in 2003 when legal service agencies in the counties of Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic merged to become one of the largest providers of free legal assistance in the state. The agency created programs to address the legal needs of senior citizens, victims of domestic violence, recent immigrants, residents with HIV/AIDS, the homeless, and low-income residents who have federal income tax issues. They provide legal representation in court and before administrative agencies and other legal advocacy to those who cannot afford a private attorney.
