GBCA's Annual Grandparents Brunch

PATERSON, NJ—Greater Bergen Community Action (GBCA) Head Start hosted its 4th annual brunch for Grandparents Relatives Care Resource Center of Paterson at their Eastside Head Start Center in Paterson on Tuesday, June 27, 2017. The event catered in-house by GBCA Food and Nutrition staff, opened with a prayer from member Shirley Chestnut, followed by a hearty welcome from Executive Director Waheedah Muhammad. GBCA Chief Enrollment Officer, Karla Foy, presented the agency’s Economic Security Initiative Program for adults over the age of 65. “There are a lot of resources out there, particularly that people ages 65 and older qualify for. This program will help you bring more resources into your house every month to help either increase your income or decrease your debt.”

After the presentation, the grandparents held their June meeting where members shared their family stories including how many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren they have. This was followed by line dancing and a soulful rendition of a spiritual hymn. Councilwoman Ruby Cotton greeted the group and stated “I love my seniors, you are always on my mind and I’m always thinking about what I can do to help make your life better.” She then directed her attention to GBCA Director of Government and Community Relations, Jill Ippolito, “thank you Jill and Paterson Head Start for having this great event. We need more groups in our city to do this for our seniors!”
