GBCA and Rutgers Partner to Provide Nutrition Education to Head Start Families

Cliffside Park, NJ – GBCA and The Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station have partnered to provide GBCA Head Start families with a ten week nutritional workshop series provided by EFNEP (Expanded Food & Nutrition Program). The workshop classes are designed to teach the families about Food Security, Dietary Quality, Physical Activity, Food Safety Practices, Resource Management and Shopping Practices, and How to Gain Access to Food Resources and Assistance Programs. Classes were run by Luz Santana of EFNEP. Each class was initiated with a ten minute power walk exercise video to promote the importance of physical activity. The presenter then used visual aids such as food portion samples and ingredient labels as part of the workshop’s education.
