HACKENSACK, NJ —Greater Bergen Community Action Inc. (GBCA) is the recipient of one of 25 "Housing for Everyone" grants awarded throughout TD Bank’s footprint from Maine to Florida by TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank. The grant will allow GBCA to expand its already well-established Homelessness Prevention Program to offer additional rental assistance to individuals who are facing eviction as well as to provide security deposits to homeless individuals living in hotels and Section 8 recipients moving into a new residence.
Clients will also be provided with:
GBCA’s Financial Assistance, Residential and Energy Services Division (FARES), provides programs designed to help low-income families/individuals focus on building financial assets and gaining financial education skills for economic success. Their Homelessness Prevention Programs have been in place since 2008, serving families with rental assistance, security deposit assistance and help with energy bills. GBCA’s Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program provides rental assistance and credit repair. Services include counseling, financial/budget management, assistance with rental arrears/security deposits and referrals. In 2011, GBCA received approval from HUD as a designated Housing Counseling Agency. The FARES Division also provides transitional and special needs housing for homeless youth, families, those in recovery from substance abuse and others who are mentally ill/chemically addicted (MICA).
