Paterson, NJ – Greater Bergen Community Action’s (GBCA) Early Head Start program in Paterson has added eight brand new classrooms for children ages 0-3 at their Eastside and Michael’s Energy Factory locations. These new classrooms will join already existing program amenities such as a playground, handicapped accessibility, dual-language speakers, before and after care, and nutritious meals among many other benefits.
GBCA Head Start Director, Nancy Griner, said of the expansion: “As a federally-funded Early Head Start program, our mission is to serve the underserved and help change the trajectory of as many lives as we can. This expansion will allow us to do just that and we’re thrilled to be able to do so.”
With the eight-classroom expansion, 64 more children and their families in the city of Paterson will be able to enroll in GBCA’s comprehensive Early Head Start program.
All GBCA Head Start and Early Head Start sites are currently open for enrollment to serve the educational, psychological, and health needs of low-income children ages 0-5 in Paterson, Jersey City and Bergen County.
GBCA Head Start programs adhere to both state and federal guidelines and are staffed with certified teachers, family workers, healthcare professionals and paraprofessionals – including registered dietitians who help maintain the students’ nutrition and offer classes for parents. All Head Start and Early Head Start students are provided with:
• free education
• free vision, dental, health and developmental screenings
• free diapers and formula (0-3 year olds)
• free nutritious meals: breakfast, lunch and a snack throughout the school day
