JOB OPPORTUNITY: Agency Attorney
Title: Agency Attorney
Reports to: Executive Vice President, COO
FLSA: Exempt
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, COO, the Agency Attorney’s primary function is to serve as in-house counsel for GBCA, Inc. and serve as a liaison to outside counsel, where appropriate. Salary commensurate with experience in the range of $65,000 to $75,000

Essential Functions

Immigration Matters
The applicant would be joining a 54-year-old Community Action Agency to assist Legal Permanent Residents (LPRs) in the naturalization application process.
• Screen and evaluate LPRs for naturalization.
• Draft and file petitions and applications.
• Develop case strategy.
• Conduct mock interviews and prepare clients for the naturalization process.
• Conduct workshops and other recruitment activities and events.
Housing & Tenant Rights Matters
The applicant would take referrals from our Housing Coalition and Tenant Advocacy case managers.
• Screen and evaluate clients regarding their housing challenges.
• Provide legal advice for clients facing eviction.
• Negotiate settlements between clients and landlords.
Agency Matters
The applicant will serve as in-house counsel on other GBCA matters and serve as a liaison to outside counsel, where appropriate.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
1. JD degree from an ABA approved law school
2. Active member in good standing with the NJ Bar Association
3. DOJ-certification
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
1. Written and oral communication skills
2. Computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and databases
3. Bi-lingual is an added benefit.
