BERGEN COUNTY -- On Wednesday, August 22nd, 2018, GBCA partnered with the Bergen County Board of Elections to introduce GBCA’s New American, English as a Second Language and High School Equivalency students to voting in the United States. Deputy County Clerk Steve Chong discussed voter registration, voter rights, and the importance of going to the polls. There was also a demonstration on a real voting machine. The students had an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the practice.
The students were able to ask questions about the process and review what to expect at the polls. Each student was given a packet with an election date calendar, voter registration applications, a guide to customer services and a FAQ booklet. The students left the event feeling informed and empowered about voting as an American citizen.
